HISTORY OF DRING STADIUM BAHAWALPUR


Bahawalpur has one of the finest stadiums in the country having fine cricket grounds, two football grounds one basket ball court and lawn tennis courts and covered swimming pool. There is also a hockey stadium, which is considered to be the second best in the country after Karachi Stadium. It can accommodate 13000 people at a time. The Bahawal Stadium is a cricket stadium situated in the Bahawalpur city of Pakistan. It is located in the region of Multan and plays host to the Bahawalpur Cricket team. The stadium doesn't have too much of sitting capacity. It was previously known as the Dring Stadium during the British reign. It hosted the first ever international game on January 15th, 1955 which was the second Test of India's maiden historic tour of Pakistan. The match ended in a draw as all the games in the 5-Test series did. Legendary Pakistan cricketer scored 142 runs in that particular match. It was also the great Vinoo Mankad's debut series as India's captain. It's been over 50 years, since a Test match has been played at the Bahawal Stadium and more than four years since it has hosted a first-class game.
